Celetná Street

A street in the Old Town, which links the Old Town Square with the Republic Square, one of the oldest streets in Prague. It developed along the road from Prague towns to Kutná Hora, the silver heart of the Czech kingdom, its importance increased even more at the end of the 14th century when an urban residence for Czech kings was established in the place of today’s Municipal House and the street became part of and also the starting point of the Royal Route. The cellars numerous houses have still have the foundations of Romanesque and Gothic buildings, which originally lied the street, most of them was, however, were later rebuilt into spacious Renaissance and Baroque palaces and residential houses. The current appearance of the street comes from 1987, when a general reconstruction of all houses, including a restoration of façades, was carried out.
